Just before 3 am on Sunday, February 16, 2019, a driver in a 2020 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-75 when she collided head-on with another vehicle, causing a six-car crash. This occurred between Corkscrew Road and Alico Road. Florida Highway Patrol had to close the northbound lanes overnight. The accident is still under investigation, though alcohol seems to be a likely factor in it.

The driver who initiated the crash has been identified as the 25-year-old captain of the “Everbabes,” the official dance team for the Florida Everblades ECHL hockey team. Her information on the Everblades website has been removed, it appears, out of respect for her privacy.

She has been listed as being in critical condition. The driver of the car that was hit head-on was in critical condition at first but is now considered in “good condition” and has been released from the hospital. Eight others were involved in the crash, their age ranging from 16 to 57, but they were able to walk away from the crash without injury.
