Speeding car kills woman, injures grandson in pedestrian accident

In Tallahassee and across Florida, drivers are expected to follow the rules of the road to keep other drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians safe. While distracted driving has become prevalent and is a cause of many auto accidents, other risks like drivers who are under the influence, drowsy driving and recklessness also cause collisions. One accident involving a speeding vehicle killed a grandmother and seriously injured her toddler grandson. The accident had been under investigation since it happened in March and new evidence has been released that may be important to a legal filing.

Woman dies, child injured by vehicle driving 100-mph

In the crash, the 45-year-old woman died and the child suffered life-threatening injuries. The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. According to the investigation, the woman was walking with the toddler in a stroller when they were hit by a Dodge Charger driven by a 23-year-old man. He was said to be speeding, but until recently, it was not revealed how fast he was going. The vehicle reached nearly 100-mph before hitting the woman. He swerved to avoid a turning vehicle, hit the curb and went through the intersection before jumping the sidewalk. It hit trees, a pole and the woman and the child. She died at the site of the accident.

The vehicle’s data was analyzed and it was found that the car was going 60-mph with many safety features like ABS brakes disengaged. The driver spoke with law enforcement at the scene. He did not mention that he had been speeding. The child who was injured had a surgical procedure on his leg and was later take to rehabilitation for several forms of therapy. He is expected to have lifelong challenges and impairments because of his injuries. The driver faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide.

Evidence is essential when seeking compensation in a legal filing

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable people on the road. Those who have been affected by a pedestrian crash should remember the importance of a full investigation to determine what happened and why. This case exemplifies why the circumstances of the pedestrian accident and its aftermath must be factored in when pursuing a case.

Since the driver was behaving so recklessly, did not give clear answers at the time of the accident and the toddler’s condition and future is clearer, this can impact the legal case. After pedestrian accidents, having legal assistance from the start can keep track of the investigation and take the necessary steps to incorporate the evidence as it is accrued. Calling for a consultation and representation is vital.
