A multi-car crash in Clay County has left a woman dead and two men critically injured.

The accident occurred on U.S. 17 in Green Cove Springs, a half-mile north of JP Hall Road.

A vehicle was traveling in the southbound lane early Saturday morning when it was struck by a nearby car. The collision sent the vehicle across the meridian and into oncoming traffic where it struck a pickup truck head-on.

The pickup was jolted into a tractor-trailer traveling alongside it in the northbound lane.

Police responded to the scene and found a 35-year-old woman dead. She was a passenger in the car that struck the pickup truck after crossing the meridian; the driver of the same car was also critically injured, along with the driver of the pickup truck.

It’s unsure what caused the accident, and an investigation remains underway.
