Investigating a pedestrian accident

Putting together the pieces of an accident can be challenging, as certain event may be unclear. Witness statements are helpful, as is camera footage. Without these, investigators have to look at the scene of the accident to establish cause and essentially liability. Once this is completed, authorities may be able to hold a motorist wholly or partially accountable in a pedestrian crash. In a fatal collision, the surviving family members of the victim may be able to take action by filing a civil suit as well.

A pedestrian accident can be a life-altering event. The injuries suffered by a victim in such a crash could have a life-long impact. Thus, victims and their loved ones should not only consider their rights when it comes to holding a negligent driver accountable, but they should also evaluate the damages suffered initially and in the future. A personal injury action or wrongful death suit may not undo the harm; however, it can help offset the burdens caused by the incident.
