Authorities offer safety tips after motorcycle accidents

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Florida averages the second highest number of distracted driving car accidents each you. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports there are around 50,000 distracted driving-related car accidents. The FHP also reported that over the past month five motorcyclists were killed and three other motorcyclists were seriously injured in motorcycle accidents.

Safety tip to help avoid motorcycle accidents

Authorities shared some tips to help avoid motorcycle accidents. Unfortunately, motorcycle riders have to be defensive drivers on the roadway and watch for drivers who are distracted while driving such as texting while driving. To help keep motorcycles safe, drivers should not engage in distracted driving. They should not text while driving, adjust their radio or put on makeup or groom themselves. All drivers should avoid all types of driver distraction to help keep the roadways safe for everyone sharing them, including motorcycles.

Drivers turning left, and drivers at intersections, should also double check for motorcycles so that they do not miss one and turn in front of it. Motorcycles, and all drivers, need to adjust for weather conditions such as rain. It is also important to allow motorcycles enough space to navigate and maneuver.

Legal protections for motorcycle accident victims

In addition to safety protections on the roadways, the legal process offers protections for motorcycle accident victims, victims of distracted driving and family members of fatal motorcycle accidents. Families and victims can receive help with their physical, financial and emotional damages which can be crucial and they begin to try to recover from the harm they have suffered.
